Okay, I am really put out by those sports figures who will make the sign of the cross as they prepare to do what they do, depending upon the sport, or those who will point to heaven after performing a great feat. I am sorry, I do not see how that glorifies God and I do not think God is overly supportive of any one athlete or sports team. In fact, I have come to believe that making Christian gestures in public has become the equivalent of wearing Christian jewelry...for many it means absolutely nothing. I have seen men and women dressed in a manner that can only be defined as vulgar wearing a cross around their neck or cross earrings...yeah, that's a great witness. Now, having said that there is one thing that irks me even more. In a conversation today someone quoted the old saying, "I would rather burn out for God than rust out for God." I understand the intent of the phrase, but I've got to say I think that mentality is of satan. Either way the result is the same...you are out! I do not believe God's intent is for us to either wear out or rust out...I think God would much prefer for us to engage in effective ministry every day of our lives. Of course to do that one must take care of self and that begins with the admission to self that I cannot do all things in my own power or timing. As good as serving God is, we must care for self so we can continue to perform that ministry for the glory of God and the advancement of the Kingdom. Remember, too much of a good thing is still too much...and that's a bad thing! Minister well.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOW! WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR BREAKFAST? I THINK YOU'RE OVER THINKING THAT PERSON'S STATEMENT "I would rather burn out for God than rust out for God." I WOULDN'T WANT TO DO EITHER BUT I WOULD DRATHER BE "DOING" THAN "IDLE". WE ALL CAN GET CAUGHT UP IN THE "DOING" MINISTRY WHEN WE NEED TO TAKE TIME TO BE WITH "OUR SOURCE" FOR WHY WE DO MINISTRY.
ReplyDeleteNOW HERE IS ONE OF MY BIG PET PEEVES: WHEN YOU'RE IN THE PROCESS OF DOING SOMETHING AND YOU ASK PEOPLE FOR THEIR OPINIONS & SUGGESTIONS AND THEY SAY NOTHING. THEN.....AFTER YOU ARE FINISHED WITH THE PROJECT, THEY PIPE IN AND TELL YOU HOW OR WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE!
P.S. I'M GOING TO KEEP WEARING MY CROSS NECKLACE BUT I DEFINITELY WON'T BE DRESSED VULGAR!
Now JW, again, I understand the intent, but I know too many people from SS teachers to Pastors to officers who have burned out and they are just that...out. Some have turned from the church and some have even turned from God. I too want to do and not be idle, but I do not want to be 'out.' Yeah, I love those folks too...mainly because Scripture tells me I must!
ReplyDeleteI'm probably going to get this wrong, but I read the other day (and don't remember where) that we should be 'used up' for God. In other words, we are to use those gifts we've been given and not just sit on them. Once we've used all that we have, we'll be going home. The tricky part is that we can continually be refilled (IF we stay connected to the source), so just when would we be 'used up'???
ReplyDeleteAs for GOD I am neither burned out or rusted out. I am on fire and well oiled, still trying to figure out what it is GOD wants from me. He has kept me around and going and I'am certain he has something for me, and what ever it is, the HOLY SPIRIT has yet to tell me.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for GOD to "use me up"and the gifts that he has given me for whatever purpose he has in mind for me.
One of my Pet Peeves(even though I still like to watch them)is TV reality shows and the whinny people on them when some one tries to vote them out.And I agree about the sports person or enternainer that wears a cross for what ever reason they have.
Waiting for GOD to open my eyes since 2007.
TAS...ideally we will be used up when Jesus calls us home...when he says to us, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
ReplyDeleteANONYMOUS...don't get me started on reality TV! I saw someone describe it as junkfood for the mind...seems appropriate! Hang in there. Sounds like God is preparing you for something...and when His time is right, the Spirit will reveal that to you.
